Having been a classic car collector for many years, I was skeptical of taking my cars locally in the San Diego area to have work done. Most of what was needed in the past was sent out at high transportation costs to the “recognized restoration” shops (also at high cost).

But I found a real gem for restoration and maintenance services right here in the San Diego area in Motech Performance. Not only do they offer pickup and delivery, but their ability to correctly diagnose and correct problems and the quality of their work is superior to any of the top shops I have dealt with over the years. And their penchant for originality of parts, finishes, etc. means that it’s done 100% correct the first time. No need to refinish when the work is done and the car is home, it comes back just like the factory did it. If they don’t know exactly how a part was finished by the factory, as in the case of my extremely rare ’69 Camaro, (after all, they are Motech Performance!), they research it until they find out. By the way, they knew more about my ’70 Cuda than some of the so-called authoritative restoration guides.

These guys are good, but you need to want the best because while fair, their prices reflect the level of service and attention to details. Far less than the “recognized restoration” shops with better results, but not your backyards mechanics. I highly recommend Motech Performance and would use them again for any marque.
